7/24 MLB Opening Day DFS Core Four

Welcome back everybody as we get our first full MLB slate of the season! We crushed it last night cashing in all formats and look to continue in that success tonight. I will be providing you all with my favorite 4 plays on Draftkings from the perspective of a cash and single entry player. If you have any questions you can find me on Twitter @713_dfs where I am doing a giveaway each of the first 7 days of the MLB season. Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Kyle Hendricks $7,400 – There are quite a few pitching options up top that will be chalky and whoever you pick, I recommend pairing him up with Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks gets the match up at home against the Brewers who he has dominated in his career. The current Brewers roster in 158 at bats against Hendricks has a .268 wOBA, a .082 ISO, and only 1 home run (!!!). Hendricks also is an extreme ground ball pitcher, specifically against right handed hitters due to his nasty sinker, and every right handed Brewers hitter has a ground ball rate greater than or equal to 40.0%. If Hendricks can avoid the power hitting lefties in this Brewers lineup (especially Christian Yelich who has horrific career number against Hendricks) I expect a really good outing at a very cheap price tag.

Carlos Santana $4,600 – My favorite team to stack tonight is the Indians at home against the Lefty Danny Duffy. I think batters 2-9 in the Indians lineup are all in play tonight but my favorite is Carlos Santana who crushed left handed pitching last year to the tune of a .227 ISO, .413 wOBA, and a 46% hard hit rate. Similarly, Santana has owned Duffy throughout his career with a .530 wOBA and a .333 ISO in 36 career at bats (Be careful using batter vs pitcher numbers unless there is a big enough sample size of at bats). The Indians could be a lower owned stack tonight and I expect them to tee off against Danny Duffy.

Corey Seager $4,100 – This is a pretty obvious play and allows you to get relatively cheap exposure to one of the top projected team totals. Seager gets a nice match up against Samardzija who gets destroyed by left handed hitters and allows a .221 ISO and 40% hard hit rate. Seager gets his ideal match up at home against a weaker pitcher and should be pretty popular as part of a Dodger’s stack or as a one off.

Josh Reddick $3,400 – Now this play right here is why I love MLB DFS. I can almost guarantee you nobody will be playing Josh Reddick tonight against a lefty but here is why I love him at such a cheap price tag. First, Reddick allows you to get cheap exposure to one of the highest projected team totals on the slate. Second, Reddick actually hit better against lefties than righties last year and has decent hard hit and fly ball rate numbers. Finally, Marco Gonzales was worst against lefties last year allowing a near 40% hard hit rate and Reddick, although in a small sample, has had good success against Gonzales batting .500.
